BETOKO
Off Recordings, Diynamic, Exploited, Nurvous are just some of the commendable underground labels Betoko has released on during the past couple of years. Based in London, this Mexican had one of the biggest hits last summer with a track that described the UK climate in 2012 down to a tee with ‘Raining Again’ on Solomun’s Diynamic label.
Betoko’s productions range from deep and melodic to a darker tech sound, but what is prevalent is his electric sounding signature kick drum building tracks to euphoric drops. His talents for showcasing a wide-range of sounds and promoting upcoming artists can be explored on his Chilli Mint Music label. Dousk & JMP’s ‘They Said’ is a track, which will get any crowd hyped.
DETROIT SWINDLE
This Dutch double act have been one of the biggest breakthrough acts of 2013 and we are delighted that they’ll be joining us at Red Room this December.
Paying homage to the Detroit 90s style of house, their sound is a blend of soulful, timely placed vocals, bumpy basslines and driving hi-hats. Tsuba released ‘That Freak Stuff’, which features on Mixology Mix Tape 18, has been a massive record for DJs all summer and was the 5th best selling Resident Advisor record for May.
You only have to look to Mixology Mix Tape 19 to see how influential Detroit Swindle’s sound has been to the Mixology residents with ‘The Breakup’ featuring. This track sets Red Room alight with atmosphere with the absorbing catchy ‘You Stole My Love’ vocals looping blending into that signature 90s house Swindle bassline drop.
With sell out shows all over Europe this summer, we are privileged that Lars & Maarten will be travelling to Peterborough to debut at Mixology this December. It may be a late Christmas present, but it’ll most definitely be worth the wait!
The RED | ROOM in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire was once an old stage room to the prestigious Embassy building where artists such as the Beatles and Rolling Stones once played. Still maintaining its heritage, the RED | ROOM is now a new music based establishment aimed at showcasing artists and DJ’s from around the globe. The exciting 400 capacity venue features a powerful Martin Audio Sound System and a cleverly positioned LED DJ booth which turns the whole venue into one intimate dance floor!
